The hummingbirds are small birds that are distinguished by their ability to hover in mid air by flapping their wings, at 15 to 18 times a second which makes a humming noise. They are also the only birds that can fly backwards. They feed on the nectar of flowers, but they do take insects to mostly feed there young. They eat up to there own weight in food and cross 500 miles nonstop. This is really amazing considering the size of the bird.

The turkey is by far the largest birds in the open forests in which they live, and are rarely mistaken for any other species. The males are normally call toms and the females hens. Turkeys are often hunted for that special Thanksgiving Day.

There are 17 to 19 know species of penguin known worldwide. Although penguins species are native to the southern hemisphere, they are not, contrary to popular belief, found only in cold climates, such as Antarctica. In fact, only a few species of penguin actually live so far south. Three species live in the tropics, one lives as far north as the Galapagos Islands. The largest of the penguin species are the Emperor penguin which is the penguin we have at the ….zoo. Most penguins feed on krill, fish, squid, and other forms of sea life caught while swimming under water.
